Beyond the Operating Room

A Staten Island, NY native, Dr. Allert was an accomplished collegiate athlete who earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as a member of an NCAA basketball team.

Understanding the deep importance of returning to sport and activity, he maintains a highly active lifestyle. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, staying active through fitness and sports, running, scuba diving, and traveling.

A Message From Dr. Allert:

As a college basketball player, I underwent shoulder surgery that didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped—and in hindsight, the surgery may not have been necessary in the first place. That experience shaped how I practice medicine today.

If surgery is truly needed, my training and experience allow me to approach it with confidence and precision. But just as importantly, my experience as a patient drives me to make sure the decision to operate is thoughtful, personalized, and never rushed. I am committed to recommending surgery only when I strongly believe it will meaningfully improve your outcome.

I’m at a stage in my career where I bring both experience and perspective, while continuing to push myself to stay at the forefront of my field. I have performed a high volume of shoulder and elbow surgeries, but actively serve as reviewer for journals and am active in residency education as assistant professor for the medical school. And as someone who has always been active, I understand how frustrating it can be when shoulder or elbow pain limits your ability to work, exercise, or even sleep comfortably.

My goal is simple: to help you recover fully and get back to the activities you enjoy—with confidence and without unnecessary treatment.
